Director of Government Affairs

Report To: Executive Vice President

Employment Status: Exempt

Basic Responsibilities: 

The Director of Government Affairs will work to advance Nebraska Cattlemen (NC) policy at all levels of local, state, and federal government. Specific duties may include the following: 

  • Coordinate NC representation on matters of legislative, regulatory, and governmental affairs.
  • Conduct research concerning the impact of existing and/or proposed legislation and regulation on Nebraska cattle producers. 
  • Develop and disseminate timely reports of legislative and regulatory activity to NC leadership and membership.
  • Assist and support members with policy development. 
  • Coordinate with membership to attend and testify at hearings when appropriate.
  • Draft legislation and hearing testimony; and interpret existing statutes and policy for NC leadership and members.
  • Serve as the NC staff liaison to the NC Political Action Committee (NC-PAC) and coordinate efforts to recruit and support candidates for elected office to achieve the goals of the NC-PAC. 
  • Serve as staff representative for NC Committee(s) and/or Council(s) as assigned by the Executive Vice President.
  • Work with the NC Director of Communication as directed to assist with content for article and updates for the NC Chronicle and Nebraska Cattleman magazine or other publications as requested. 
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of NC and National Cattlemen's Beef Association members. 

The Director of Government Affairs is a full-time position located in the Nebraska Cattlemen office in Lincoln, Nebraska. It includes travel to local, state, and national industry meetings and other relevant programs. Strong deference will be given to candidates with prior experience in government relations and/or regulatory work. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, and some level of beef industry experience is desirable. 

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
